You were initiated into the family business at a very young age. What is your earliest memory of working with your father and/or brothers?
Mostly doing simple things that were safe for me to do, like assisting people who were older and more experienced than me. The idea was for me to follow my brothers’ examples and learn from them.
Your specific talents have been utilized in a number of areas here. First, you were catapulted to the head of Production for Diaz Group LLC, and more recently, you were appointed as the company’s first Director of Technology. How do you handle all the changes and the continual increase in responsibilities?
It’s all a matter of mindset, really. I can do all these things because I believe I can do them. As for the changes, that’s just business as usual for Diaz Group. I’ll get worried the day things stop changing.
As you know firsthand, working in any family-owned business has its pluses and minuses. It’s clearly not for everybody but you really seem to be in your element here at Diaz Group. What do you enjoy most about being a part of Diaz Group, either as a principal or as an employee?
Ever since I was “too young” to help in the family business, joining my dad and my brothers is all I ever wanted to do. Diaz Group is as much a part of me as I am a part of it. What do I enjoy most? Belonging. (laughing) That and seeing my family’s name on the sign every morning.
